The following are just a few free tips that can stop your snoring and change your life. You will do well to learn them and apply them to your situation. Perhaps by trying them out you will finally be able to stop your snoring and live the relatively normal life that has eluded you since you found out that you had sleep apnea… the hard way.
#1 Exercise – It might amaze you the number of people who do not already know that being overweight tends to cause people to snore. You don’t even need a medical journal to prove that to you. All you have to do is walk into a room in which several people are sleeping at the same time. Nine times out of ten, it is the fat guy who snores or snores the loudest. Since you already know that you are overweight, you may want to work on bringing your body mass index back below 25. That should help to make your throat muscles a little bit tighter so that air can pass more freely through it. It will be wise to ease up on the exercise, though. You wouldn’t want to overwork yourself so that you are too tired now.
#2 Watch the Substance – It is a fact that various substances can cause your breathing passageways to relax a bit too much. This may not sound like much to you but it really is. When the muscles are a bit too relaxed, they constrict when you sleep and are forced to vibrate loudly when air struggles to get past them.
It goes without saying that whatever substances you are on that causes your passageways to relax that much should either be done away with or taken well before you go to bed. That rule applies to alcohol, drugs, tranquilizers eating, and even medication. I would say two to three hours before sleeping should be a healthy enough margin. And if you smoke, stop it already: same effects.
#3 Treat the Underlying Condition – There are a variety of medical conditions that can cause sleep apnea, you know. Some of them are severe and others not so relentless. A serious cold for instance could cause your passageways to be lined with mucus and phlegm so that breathing becomes labored.
Some other kinds of infections also could block your nasal passages and throat, as can such medical conditions as tonsils and adenoids. A deviated nasal septum also could result in noisy breathing when you sleep, and the list goes on. What you need is for your doctor to diagnose you properly and treat the underlying condition causing the snoring. No fire, no smoke.
#4 Raise Your Head – This stop snoring remedy is like the most absurdly simple you could have thought of; you don’t even have to see any medical professional about it. The soft palate in the roof of your mouth tends to fall back into your throat when you sleep on your back and throw your head backwards. The simple remedy for this is to raise your head when you sleep, or better still, you could sleep on your side. Either way, you get to stop the ‘fallback’ and with it the snoring.
#5 Get a Stop Snoring Device – There are so many stop snoring devices around that they could make your head literarily spin. There are mandibular adjustment splints, chin pillows, mouthpieces, and a host of others like them. Some you can even purchase over the counter, while others you will need a prescription for. But if you snore already, you should have no trouble getting that prescription, no? So go get it. They are simple and they are free, but these undemanding tips may just be the ways by which you are able to stop snoring and cease back the control of your life.
