You may not have thought of it but the reason you snore has a lot to do with your mouth. It may not be the actually cause of it, but it is definitely a deciding factor that determines how badly you snore when you sleep. That is why a number of stop snoring aids focus on your mouth, and why you should pay attention to them as best you can.
Most people who snore do so with their mouths open. That may seem interesting because if snoring is as a result of the amount of space available – or the lack thereof – for the air you breathe to pass through, then an open mouth should be a remedy, not a complication. You are however wrong here because the actual problem is not in the mouth but in the throat. When they are infected by any condition whatsoever, the muscles of your nasal cavity are prone to constrict.
Certain medical circumstances also may cause the muscles and flesh of any part of your respiratory system to be compromised and lose so that when air tries to get past them, they vibrate and result in the snoring sound. Because the space is narrowed down, sufficient air is not able to get past to your lungs so you open your mouth to compensate. You do draw in more air, but because the passageways are still too contracted, sufficient air cannot get through. As a result, the snoring noise is that much louder.
Several stop snoring devices are designed deliberately to help this unfortunate fault, and you will find them very useful in helping you stop snoring. The Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine is one such device. Most medical professionals prefer to call this contraption as the CPAP. It has an air-pumping machine that is located on the side of your bed when you sleep; it has a flexible hosepipe that is attached to the pump and to a mask over your face.
The mask covers your mouth and nose, and the pump supplies a continuous stream of air for you to breathe while you sleep. There aren’t a lot of people who are very fund of the CPAP machine because they consider it bogus and awkward to use, but doctors often prescribe it for people with the worst snoring conditions.
The Mandibular Advancement Splints are a tad similar to the above-mentioned contraption, but operate on a totally different principle. The splints are attached to the lower jaw section of your mouth and used to force the jaw forward. Your tongue, attached to the jaw, also is advanced from your throat so that it does not get a chance to fall back and block the available airways that will let air pass through.
As long as you have not found a lasting cure for your snoring, the mandibular advancement splints will have to remain attached to your mouth every night.
The Nozovent is another stop snoring device that works with your mouth, as are the Noiselezz and Sumno guards, which are getting more popular in the United States all the time. But the Mouthpiece is even more specific. It comes in many different variations, and often the doctor or dentist has to be certain what kind of snoring you suffer from before you are prescribed one. Now you know, snoring does have a lot to do with your mouth.
